On Hornets & Bumble Bees

As a girl, I used to rake hay in the hayfields, and it wasn't unusual to run into a bumble bees nest. One summer we had a boy from Japan stay with us, and he liked to sing "Here Comes the Bees" to the familiar Beatle's tune "Here Comes the Sun." I really dislike any kind of flying insect with a stinger and will go a LONG way out of my way to avoid them.

Oftentimes at the end of summer, we'll find a hornets' nest inside our propane tank cover, but this year, we'd noticed an unusual amount of "activity" there. My husband opened the lid today to find this monster nest. Yikes! He also said he found a huge bumble bee's nest last month IN OUR BARN. That's just crazy. Is it from all the rain we've had and the cool temperatures? I don't know, but I can tell you that I don't like it very much!
