Like this morning, I'd prepared for the interview--worked up my answers, ironed my clothes, was having a great hair day--everything was good, despite that I had to get up at 4:00 A.M. So after an hour drive to the station, I'm eventually escorted into the newsroom, asked to sit down, and they clip a microphone onto my lapel without any kind of direction or instruction. Tawnya Bach, the Morning Show Host, was a peach and gave a quick run-through of the format--and then 3-2-1, we're on and she's asking me a question...but wait . . . I'd planned to open with what Ms. Bach said. So, now what???
I froze! Literally, in mid-sentence. LOL
Then I looked toward the camera--but whoa, there's two or three of them--so which one do I look at? And then the camera guy holds up his fingers and starts counting down. What? Do I even have time to finish what I'm saying??? All of this is going through my mind.
Needless to say, the interview didn't go as well as I'd hoped, but Ms. Bach saved the day with her prompts--oh how I wish I could have been as cool and collected as she! I did manage to sputter a few details about the book and series, and the station graciously added my web site to the show to drive some readers my way, so I guess it wasn't a total loss.
