Book Reviews for Snow Melts in Spring:

There is much to like in Deborah Vogt's debut novel, Snow Melts In Spring, making it a satisfying read. Character driven, yet overflowing with beautifully described scenery, detailed information on horses and veterinarian techniques and an authentic romance which doesn't succumb to clichés. Gil, Mattie and John are well developed characters that struggle with the hurts and disappointments in their lives, their personalities marked by their pain. Drawn together by a tragic injury to a beloved horse, there is still much to keep Mattie and Gil apart, including a family feud, hidden secrets and the defiance of both father and son. Snow Melts in Spring is an excellent start to the Seasons of the Tallgrass series and Deborah's writing career. ~ Relz Reviewz

Author Deborah Vogts brings the Kansas prairie alive in her debut novel Snow Melts in Spring. This was a wonderful read. The prose is almost lyrical, a love song to the rolling Flint Hills of Kansas. Ms. Vogts does and incredible job with her setting. The prairie becomes another character in the book. It all sounds so peaceful and the way of life so simple. It was a wonderful escape from my technological wonderland. I thoroughly enjoyed this inspirational sweet contemporary romance. With the themes of forgiveness and renewal center stage amidst the family conflict, Ms. Vogts characters draw you into their inner struggles and painful losses. She develops the romance slowly with friendship first and when Mattie and Gil share their first kiss, it is just sweeps you away. What a lovely escape. This is an impressive debut novel and I look forward to many more to come. Well done, Ms. Vogts, Well done! Happy Reading. ~ Mary Lenaburg

Deborah Vogts, a country girl herself, does a masterful job of creating an exciting story while capturing the gentle rhythm of life on the Kansas prairie. Her attention to details on horse-related matters is refreshing after reading too many stories from writers who wouldn’t know horse matters if they stepped in it. The most rewarding thing about reading this book is relating to the complex, but realistic characters and being inspired by God’s hand in their lives. Deborah has created a compelling story, and I’m looking forward to reading the next Season of the Tallgrass. “Snow Melts in Spring” is recommended for: all animal lovers, especially horse lovers. Football fans. Country girls. Readers who want more substance and less fluff. Rodeo fans. Those dealing with guilt or regret. Anyone who thinks cowboys are romantic. ~ Susan Mires

The Kansas Flint Hills is a strip of land stretching from Nebraska to Oklahoma, two hundred miles long and sixty miles wide, that refuses to be tamed because of the flint rock embedded in the hills. Although farmers once tried to run plows through it, they abandoned their efforts, leaving it to its original native grass. That is why it remains as one of the largest tallgrass prairies in the world.

Book #2 - Seasons of the Tallgrass
Romantic Times Review -

When opposites attract, sparks fly--like an electrical malfunction. That's what happens when former rodeo queen Natalie Adams meets the new pastor in Diamond Falls.

A heart-warming contemporary romance set in the Flint Hills of Kansas where a former rodeo queen abandons her dreams in order to care for her deceased father’s ranch and her two half-siblings, only to realize with the help of a young new pastor that God can turn even the most dire circumstances into seeds of hope. Spanning the Seasons of the Tallgrass, each story in this series reveals the struggle of the people who live there and the dreams they have for the land until they come full-circle in a never-ending cycle, just as man comes full-circle in his understanding of God.

Snow Melts in Spring
Book #1 ~ Seasons of the Tallgrass Series

When an aged horse is severely injured on a gravel road in the Flint Hills of Kansas, country veterinarian Mattie Evans accepts the challenge to save him. But she finds herself in the middle of a longstanding feud between the horse’s owner, pro quarterback Gil McCray, and his ailing father—who is also her dear friend.

As the snow melts in spring, Gil’s return to his estranged father’s ranch brings a chance for new beginnings and reconciliation, but when he falls in love with Mattie, he must face the truths that haunt him or run from his past. Meanwhile, Mattie encourages Gil to return permanently to Kansas rather than retire in California. Their love collides when Mattie’s sister arrives on Gil’s doorstep, causing Gil to come to terms with the jealous acts leading up to his brother’s death and seek forgiveness from those he loves most. Can he accept God’s forgiveness, and will that be enough to make him stop running from his memories of home? In turn, if Mattie forgives, she’ll be forced to choose between the man of her dreams and the land she dearly loves.
Book Reviews for Seeds of Summer:

The magic of the written word. Done correctly, it can weave a spell and hold you so tightly its difficult to put a book down. Deborah Vogts sequel in her Seasons of the Tallgrass has captured that magic. Seeds of Summer is an excellent addition to this series. This book is something I’ve longed to read in the Christian market. A look inside the other aspects of the world of rodeo–the Miss Rodeo America Pageant. It’s a wonderful mix of life in the Flint Hills of Kansas and ranching. I couldn’t recommend this book more. If you get a chance grab a copy. Get a cup of coffee, or iced tea, find a shady spot, sit back and enjoy. I’m looking forward to the next book in this series, Blades of Autumn. – Winter Peck

This was a sweet and lovely story. I’m not a big fan of westerns romances, but the present day country feel of this novel was perfect and very entertaining. The writing was done very well and the plot moved along at a nice pace. Natalie, although a pretty wholesome character was believable and strong in the sense of herself and doing the right things. She was amazingly brave in the face of adversity and ultimately an encouraging character to look up to. I highly recommend this for a fun, light summer read with a glass of ice tea……… Tina's Book Reviews

The Seasons of the Tallgrass Series
Contemporary Prairie Romance by Zondervan

The Seasons of the Tallgrass series captures the spirit and dreams of ordinary people living in the Flint Hills of Kansas--one of the last tallgrass prairie regions in the world. In writing this series, I hope to share my passion for this place, showing that God's great beauty rests on the prairie and in the hearts of those who live there.
